Every Monster Hunter game seems to have its end game monster theme. However Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has put a nice twist on the rewards you get after the hunt in the form of afflicted materials.
What are afflicted monsters?
Without spoiling any of the major plot in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, afflicted monsters, much like the name implies, are afflicted with a plot-related ailment.
This is really just a plot device used to ramp up the stats, attack patterns, and speed of these monsters to make them more fun(?) and challenging to fight. The plot is somewhat similar to the frenzy virus that effected monsters in Monster Hunter 4.
With a more challenging fight, you of course are granted a good reward.
You can check out the afflicted monster page on the Monster Hunter Wiki as well for more info regarding monsters!

Wrapping Up
I recently grabbed Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak and I definitely like a lot of the changes and new content so far. I have never been nearly as good at Monster Hunter games as your average speedrunner is, but I always have a fun time with a Monster Hunter title.
I’m excited to clear out all of the afflicted monsters and upgrade some weapons and craft some decorations!
For all things Monster Hunter, keep it here.
